What Is Your Version History Limit? Unlimited - there is no limit. SDS Online Backup keeps every version of every protected file, forever, at no cost to you. Our costs are based on the amount of data you SELECT to backup, not the amount of data stored on our data vault servers, like the other online backup providers.
Is There An Open File Manager Available? YES. Our open file manager is built in - again, no cost to our clients. There is an option to disable it though.
Is Email Notification Of Successful Backups Built In? YES. Step 3 of the install wizard allows you to input an email address for notifications.
Can I Perform Multiple Automatic Backups Daily? YES. Select “Hourly Backups” with our built in scheduler, then set the hour amount.
Can I Create Multiple Backup Jobs? No. However, our Enterprise Class Online Backup Solution allows multiple backup jobs. Click HERE for Enterprise Class Online Backup Solution.
Can I Backup Multiple Computers Under One Backup Account? YES and at no extra charge, unlike other online backup providers. All the computers belonging to the account will appear in the GUI. Our Enterprise Class Online Backup Solution also allows for multiple computers under on account, however, it can be set to display only the local computer in the GUI.
Can I Share The Files I Backup? YES. You can share any version of any file, from anywhere in the world using just a web-browser - at no cost to you. Great for files too large for email. Very few online backup providers offer the service.
Is The Install and Setup Easy? YES. Install is a couple mouse clicks and setup is a just a 4-step wizard that includes built-in backup jobs for My Documents, My Pictures, My Desktop, and My Pictures. You can disable the built-in backup jobs and create your own custom backup jobs.
How Long Will It Take To Perform A Backup? That depends on many factors. The initial "big push" (or "baseline backup") will depend on the data you have selected to backup and your Internet speed. We compress your data before pushing it - some data compresses better than others, as such, some data is backed up faster. For example, spreadsheets compress great, pictures do not. We recommend customers do their full baseline backup on a Friday night. Also, there is a "physical media upload" tool built in to our software. To use the physical media upload, we would ship you a hard drive – you would backup to that hard drive using the “physical media upload” option - send us the hard drive back - and then we perform the “Baseline Backup” for you. Great for 10GB backups and larger. |

How Do I Figure Data Storage Size? We kept it simple - we only charge for the amount of data you SELECT to backup. So from day 1, you know your costs - no surprises. Since we only charge for the amount of data SELECTED to backup, we are able keep ALL your backed up data forever. That means you will be able to restore today's file 2, 3, or even 5 years. Other providers charge for the amount of data stored on their servers - that means the more file changes that occur, the larger your storage size becomes, the more you are charge. The others only keep your last few backups too. Another way to look at their service - you are penalized for backing up changed files.
How Much Will My Data Storage Size Grow Be After Year 1? Doesn’t matter since we only charge by the amount of data selected. With other providers though, especially the ones using incremental backup technology, it can be has large as double the size in the first week, and 12 times larger by week 6 plus.
How Many Versions (Backup Copies) of My Files Do You Retain? UNLIMITED copies at No Cost to you! We keep all your versions of your protected files at NO COST to you. You can restore any of your protected files 1, 2, or even 5 years from now - at no charge to you. Typical with other online backup providers, is to keep the last few backups. |

How Are Costs Figured? We keep it very simple. You are charged for the amount of data you SELECT to backup - which allows for great flexibility on data selection. Other providers will charge for the amount of data stored on their servers, which means - the more files you change, the larger your data storage size becomes on their server, the larger your monthly costs.
Are There Charges For Restoring Data? NO. You can restore as many times as you need at no cost. Open up the GUI and follow the wizard. You can re-direct the restore to any location on the computer.
Are There Charges For Backing Up Data? NO. We only charge for the amount of data you SELECTED to backup. So backup as many times as you need, change files, rename files, move files.... You cost will remain the same, not so with the other providers.
How Much Does The Service Cost? For yearly contracts the price is $2.09/GB/month based on the amount of data SELECTED for backup, not how much data is stored on our servers. The price includes UNLIMITED number of your backups kept on our servers. Typical in the industry is to charge by the amount of data on the servers, then limit the number of backups kept to the last few backups only. We offer price discounts to clients with warranties from CWS. |

Can You Give Some Details About SDS Backup Process? Our Remote Online Backup is an automated 3 step process. In step 1, the data you selected to protect is broken up into small data packages, integrity stamped, encrypted, compressed, integrity stamped again – now ready for transport to our data centers. In step 2, the compressed data packages are encrypted again and transmitted to our data centers via your Internet connection. In step 3, the data packages arrive at our data center, followed by integrity checks. If the integrity checks fail, the data packages are re-sent. If the integrity checks pass, the data packages are encrypted again, time and date stamped, then added to your backup for the day. For security reasons, all backups are initiated from your PC, not our servers.
Are The Daily Backups Incremental or Differential? Neither. We use a patented Bit Level backup – only the 1’s and 0’s inside the changed files are backed up, not the files. Makes for very fast daily backups without issues, which allows us to keep all your backups forever.
How Long Are Daily Backups? Of course that depends on many factors - comparatively speaking though, very quick. Only the 1’s and 0’s that changed INSIDE the files are backed up, not the changed files.
How Is My Data Stored At The Data Center? We store your data at multiple data centers. |
